Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is prime choice for many people with dry scalp. Thanks to its anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, it will enrich your scalp, sent the antibodies packing and give you the scalp you desire. Since the dryness is a result of skin cell overproduction, it kills off the bacteria responsible for this and sets the scalp free to live its life. It also gives you instant relief from scalp itchiness due to irritation and is an effective combatant against dry scalp. There are several uses of tea tree oil.

Method of application

  • Add 15 drops of tea tree oil to one cup of mild shampoo, preferably tea tree oil shampoo or baby shampoo
  • Rinse your scalp and hair with this mixture
  • Repeat regularly
  • Note that you can also mix tea tree oil with water and follow the steps above


  • Mix three drops of the oil with one tablespoon of vegetable oil

Olive Oil

  • Heat some amount of olive oil till its warm
  • Allow it to cool for some seconds before applying on your scalp

  • Cover with a hot towel or shower cap for 1 hour. If it?s done at night, you should leave it overnight
  • Rinse off with shampoo and conditioner

Baking Soda

  • Apply the paste on your dry scalp and massage gently but thoroughly

  • Rinse the hair with or without ACV depending on your hair porosity

Note that you must not use shampoo after this application and this treatment shouldn’t be done regularly, once a month is enough.


Apple Cider Vinegar

There was a time I lost faith in this ingredient because it seemed too good to be true. It is widely acclaimed to be effective for nearly all skin conditions I know or have heard of. But while ACV may or may not be a natural panacea, I know for a fact that it works well on scalps. It removes dandruff, flakes, stops itchiness and restores the health and shine of the scalp. ACV is a disinfectant with antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal properties that kills the bacteria and fungi that cause the scalp to dry out. It balances scalp levels and acts as a moisturizer especially after a baking soda wash.

Method of application

  • Mix equal apple cider vinegar and water in equal quantities
  • Stir well and apply solution to the scalp
  • Massage well till it saturates the scalp
  • Rinse with cold water
  • In case you mixed vinegar with the ACV, leave for about 10 minutes before washing off.


Aloe Vera

This is one other home remedy agent that seems able to solve every problem. Aloe vera is highly effective and well able to take care of dry scalp. Aloe vera contains minerals, vitamins and enzymes that are of immense benefit to the scalp. There is a high tendency that some dry scalp is a consequence of insufficient vitamins in the body. Aloe vera contains vitamins A, B complex, E and C. it contains amino acids and because it is made up of 99% water, with which it strengthens and rejuvenates skin cells. Aloe vera is incredibly soothing and relieves of itchiness. It has antibacterial properties, is antiseptic and does an excellent job of getting rid of dry scalp

Method of application

  • Remove aloe vera gel from the leaf
  • Massage the gel on the dry scalp with your fingers and be thorough but gentle about it
  • Leave the gel on for 20 minutes and then rinse out


Witch Hazel

This is a natural and powerful astringent that helps relieve dry and itchy scalp. Witch hazel herb will eliminate the itchiness and provide soothing relief from the actions of bacteria and fungi irritating the scalp.

Method of application

  • Mix witch hazel and water in the ratio one to two
  • Apply the mixture on your scalp and massage thoroughly but gently with your fingers
  • Leave for 5 to 10 minutes
  • Rinse the hair thoroughly
  • Repeat application regularly until you get the desired result.
